Google updates its core algorithm

As we suspected, some of the recent short-lived fluctuations in search rankings are due to a Google core algorithm update. This was confirmed by Google via a tweet by Danny Sullivan at Google’s Search Liaison account.

The goal of the core algorithm update, was not testing content quality. Per Google, this broad update, released last week, was about improving SERPs’ quality and “rewarding under-rewarded sites”, not about penalizing.

We’ve been observing client pages dropping out and then resurfacing within hours, since the third week of January. Notably, clients’ sites with no prior visibility have been benefitting from this shake-up. The full rollout of this Google algorithm update, took place on March 4th.
